Research activities

From December 1995 to September 1998 was a postgraduate of the Department of Biochemistry, where performed and defended her scientific study "Age features of processes of free radical oxidation and energy-supply in conditions of acute toxic liver damage and ways of their correction " After defending of her scientific study induct as Assistant of the Department. Since 2006 worked as an Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Biochemistry. In 2014, defended her thesis for a Doctor's degree: "Pathogenic substantiation of xenodermotransplantational correction of system in morphological and functional changes of internal organs during of combined (mechanical and thermal) injury. Published over 58 scientific papers.

Research interests

Research of humoral immunity, the activity of cytosolic enzymes lipoperoxidation processes and endogenous intoxication during multiple trauma.

Korda Mykhailo Mykhailovych

In 1982 he graduated with honors from comprehensive school Rozvadivsku. The same year he entered the Ternopil State Medical Institute (now University) on a specialty "Medicine". In the universities took part at Students scientific societies in physics, biochemistry and surgery. After graduation with honors in 1988 was qualified as a Medicine Doctor (MD, Physician).

Research activities

In 1988 enrolled as Postgraduate at the Department of Biochemistry. After defending his defended his scientific study in 1991, he worked as an assistant of Department, and since 1998 – as an Associate Professor. In 1998 he defended his thesis for a Doctor's degree: "Disturbances of oxidative and protective systems of the body for acute chemical liver damage and ways of their correction" (supervisor - prof. Ya.I.Honskyy). Since 2001 - Professor of Department of Medical Chemistry. In 2002 was elected head of the department of medical chemistry. From February 2003 to March 2004 worked as a researcher in the biochemical laboratory of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the University of Ohio (USA). From September 2004 to September 2007 he worked as a visiting professor of chemistry and biochemistry at University of Ohio. From 2007 to 2014 he continued to work as Head of the Department of Medical Biochemistry. In 2015, he is newly elected rector of Ternopil State Medical University.

Author of 300 scientific publications, national textbook, 2 monographs, 13 patents, has prepared 1 Doctor of Sciences and 5 Candidates of Sciences, under his leadership, are performing 7 scientific studies.

He has participated in international conferences as a guest speaker, particularly in the US, Japan, Korea, Germany and Poland. On his initiative hold a meeting of different Ukrainian scientific-practical conference devoted to problems of modern medical biochemistry.

Member of the editorial boards of a number of foreign and domestic scientific journals, including executive editor of magazine «Social, Health and Communication Studies Journal» and «International Journal of Medicine and Medical Research», deputy editor of the scientific and practical journal "Medical Education" scientific consultant of "Pharmaceutical journal" and others.

Research interests

Biochemistry of free radicals; hepatotoxicology; the role of nitric oxide in the pathology of the cardiovascular system; endothelial dysfunction mechanisms of obesity, hypertension and atherosclerosis; nanotoxicology, the use of nanomaterials in medicine and pharmacy.

In 1984 was graduated from Lviv State University I. Franko, Faculty of Biology, specialty "Chemistry and Biology."

Research activities

In 1984-1985 she worked as a teacher of biology and chemistry in Byshkivskoyi comprehensive secondary school of Nesterivskoho district, Lviv region. From 1988 - Research Assistant at the Department of Biochemistry of Ternopil State Medical Institute, from 2004 - Assistant of Medical Biochemistry and clinical laboratory diagnostics Department, and since 2008 - Associate Professor and Academic counsellor of Department. In 2007 she defended her scientific work: "Peculiarities of protein metabolism in the body of white rats infected with cadmium, nitrite, and low-dose radiation and methods of their correction" (supervisor - prof. Honskyi). She is the author and co-author of 58 scientific articles, 1 monograph and 1 manual in biochemistry.

Research interests

The study of age peculiarities of protein metabolism in the liver.

Shershun Halyna Hryhorivna

Research activities

She is first Postgraduate student of Biochemistry Department. In 1970 she defended her scientific work " The relationship of vitamin B1 with micronutrients Mn and Zn in case of excess its receipt " (supervisor - prof. Z.Hude). Since 1970 she works as an assistant from 1992 - senior lecturer at the Department of Medical Biochemistry.

She published more than 80 scientific papers, co-author of “Biochemical Glossary of Terms" and "Biological Chemistry. Laboratory workshop. "

Research interests

are the relationship between metabolism of vitamins and minerals; correction of biochemical processes in the body by the action of biogenic and anthropogenic toxicants.

In 2008 defended her scientific work: "Study of biochemical processes in hepatocytes carp and crawfish for actions damaging environmental factors" (supervisor - prof. O. Carpenter). Since 2009 worked as an Associate Professor ща Department of Medical Biochemistry and since 2013 works as Associate Professor of Medical biochemistry Department. She has more than 40 publications.

Research interests

The study of antioxidant defense system and acutephasei response in the liver by the action of toxic factors.

She was graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Lviv National University of I.Franko with honors.

Research activities

PhD was defended at Specialized Academic Council of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry and petrolchemistry of NAS of Ukraine (m. Kyiv) in 2006, she has academic degree of Candidate of Chemical Sciences. The theme of the scientific work: "Homogeneous catalytic synthesis of bisphenols from 2,6-di-tert-butylfenol." In Ternopil Medical Institute she worked from 1978 to 1986 – as a senior laboratory assistant, junior researcher of Department of general chemistry and biochemistry. In 1986-1995 she worked in Ternopil Radio Plant "Orion" as a chemical engineer. In Ternopil State Medical University. started again to work as an assistant of General Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, and then, since 2008 - Associate Professor Pharmaceutical Chemistry, 2013 - Associate Professor of General chemistry Department. Since September 2014 transferred to the Department of Medical Biochemistry. She teaches Medicinal Chemistry and Bioorganic Chemistry for students of medical and dental faculties

Antioxidants, their synthesis and study of physicochemical properties, biological roles.

Lykhatskyi Petro Hryhorovych

Research activities

From 2002 to 2014 has been working in Ternopil State Medical. During his time at university he worked as a senior laboratory assistant, assistant, Associate Professor of biochemistry. In 2007, under the supervision of Professor Fira defended his scientific work on the specialty 03.00.04 - biochemistry. From July 2014 to the present has been the head of the educational department and Associate Professor of medical biochemistry. Since February 2010 he has been working on a PhD thesis on "Peculiarities of oxidative processes in rats of different age conditions combined exposure to tobacco smoke and nitrites and ways of correction" in the specialty 03.00.04 - biochemistry. He is the author and co-author of about 85 scientific publications and co-author of 1 monograph. Over the past 5 years received 4 patents for utility model and is the author of three newsletters.

Research interests

Investigation of metabolic disorders in animals under conditions of liver disease and myocardial chemical, physical and biological toxicants and ways of correcting the identified disturbances of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepato- and cardioprotective properties and pharacocorection of toxic liver disease and cardiomyopathy of ischemic origin.

In 2011. defended her thesis on "Peculiarities of biochemical processes in the liver and kidney lesions in experimental pancreatic cancer and ways of their correction" (supervisor - prof. KA Posokhova). Since 2010 works at the Department of Medical Biochemistry. She is the author and co-author of 57 scientific publications, textbooks.

Research interests

Studying the role of nitric oxide system in the mechanisms of liver disease and kidney disease in experimental acute pancreatitis.

In 2010 she defended her thesis on "Peculiarities of prooxidant-antioxidant balance in rats under the influence of heavy metals and sodium nitrite and correction of disturbances" (supervisor - prof. Honskyy). Since 2011 she has been working at the Department of Medical Biochemistry.

She is the author and co-author of 85 publications of scientific and educational-methodical, 3 patents for utility model.

Research interests

She research Chemical pathogenesis of liver disease; development of new methods of correcting disorders caused by chemical agents, which are based on the use of metal complexes and Enterosorbents; development of experimental models of acute and chronic hepatitis, pancreatitis, cholestasis in rats and guinea pigs; study biochemical mechanisms of toxicity of nanoparticles of different nature in biological systems.

From May to August 2018 Junior Research Fellow in the Institute of Animal Biology.

Defended dissertation "Biochemical processes in the rats organism with experimentally induced diabetes under the action of magnesium and chromium citrates".

- the influence of citrates compounds on metabolic processes under diabetes mellitus

Inna Birchenko

In 1999 finished Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University, speciality “Biology and chemisrty.

In 2003 finished Ohio University, speciality MS in Environmental Studies.

In 2008 finished University of Notre Dame, speciality PhD in Biological Sciences.

Defended dissertation “Genetic diversity and haplotype richness of northern red oak (Quercus rubra L.)”.

Scientific investigations and scientific interestings:

- molecular population genetics of rare and vulnerable species and genetic risks of protective measures.

Author and coauthor of 6 scientific publications.



Oleksandr Tokarskyy

Graduated from Ternopil State Technical University in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology and Engineering, and in 2003 - with a Specialist degree, qualified as a engineer-technologist.

In 2005, I received a Master of Science degree in Food Science, Nutrition, and Health Promotion with a Biochemistry specialization from Mississippi State University.

In 2010, I defended my PhD Dissertation at the Mississippi State University in Food Science and Technology, with a dissertation titled "Depuration as a method to reduce Vibrio vulnificus populations in live Crassostrea virginica oysters."

During my studies at Mississippi State University, I worked as an assistant to professor, conducting laboratory and practical classes on disciplines, profiled at the department.

Within 2009-2010 academic year, I worked full-time at the Mississippi University for Women as a lecturer, lectured courses and conducted laboratory and practical classes in General Microbiology, General Biology-1, and Microbiology of Food Products.

From 2011 till 2012, I worked as a post-doctoral associate at the University of Florida, Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.

Scientific interests - biochemistry, physiology, adaptation and survival of pathogenic bacteria, as well as opportunistic pathogens.
